As we are all forced into confinement during this coronavirus pandemic, I can imagine that many women are breathing a sigh of relief while others are ready to pull their hair out. It’s easy to become complacent and lazy since schools are shut down and shops are closing earlier. But I want to remind you of your power as a woman of God. In bible times, during catastrophes and great tribulations, the people of God often expected the women to cry out to God with supplications. This simply shows the influence that women have on the earth to cause God to respond to His people. Here are 3 ways we can use our anointing, authority, and influence in Christ to overcome COVID-19.
The broken-hearted cry from a woman of God has always gotten the attention of the Most High. Consider Hagar when she ran from Sarah and wept bitterly in the desert. Or Hannah when she prayed fervently in the temple for a son. When a woman of God gets to their wit’s end about something, it’s as if our passion ignites an anointed outcry that Yahweh cannot ignore. When the Israelites were under God’s judgment for their iniquity, God spoke to Prophet Jeremiah in chapter 9 to gather the wailing women. These women came before God crying out for His help in their time of need.
17 Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“Consider and call for the mourning women,
That they may come;
And send for skillful wailing women,
That they may come.
18 Let them make haste
And take up a wailing for us,
That our eyes may run with tears,
And our eyelids gush with water.
19 For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion:
‘How we are plundered!
We are greatly ashamed,
Because we have forsaken the land,
Because we have been cast out of our dwellings.’ ”
In these verses, we see that God placed a command specifically on the women. That they should come forth with wailing and crying. This type of response was pleasing to God. It pleases Him so much that He commands the women to teach their daughter to do so as well.
20Yet hear the word of the Lord, O women,
And let your ear receive the word of His mouth;
Teach your daughters wailing,
And everyone her neighbor a lamentation.
If we the “wailing women” of God would go back to the threshing floor with supplications and prayers against the coronavirus, we will again touch the heart of our Lord and bring deliverance to our land.
2. Keeping the Home
As many children are home from school and men are off work, mothers, guardians, grandmothers, sisters, and aunts alike have an amazing opportunity to positively affect the lives of the people under their care. God anointed women to be keepers of the home. When children are out in the world, attending school, camp, and practices, they are being fed all types of information that can potentially pollute their soul and draw them away from God. At this time women of God must bear the fruit of patience and self-control as we are caring for the youth in our households. It’s easy to give in to frustration and cast the kids away. Instead, we should use this opportunity to plant seeds of righteousness into the minds of our children to prepare them for a life of obedience to God.
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Furthermore, I can imagine that many husbands, fathers, grandfathers, and brothers across the country are feeling the pressure as they are anointed to be leaders and the heads of households. Since the beginning of time women have had an ability to turn a man and sway him either unto good or unto evil. Within the bounds of a marital covenant, God has anointed women with a particular ability to win over the heart of her husband as she, herself, submits to God. Women of God must be attentive to the needs of her husband during this season. As he is strategizing on ways to keep money flowing and bills paid, we must make sure the house is cleaned, food is prepared, and kids are complying as not to add extra stress on his head. These duties and “gender roles” are not outdated nor do they degrade a woman. They are something like our superpowers. God has graced us to handle those things so that the house as a whole will stay afloat and the family united.
4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
3 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
3. Invoke the law of kindness
Women are widely known for being emotional, nurturing, and gossipers. Unfortunately, for generations, we have been known to use our tongue to do evil. We’ve developed a bad rep for using our tongue to manipulate men, discourage other women, and worst of all nag! But that is not the portion for women of God. We have been quickened with the power of the Holy Spirit and therefore are able to transform that narrative. With nothing to do these days other than scroll social media and engage in conversation with loved ones, it’s imperative that we use our tongue to encourage and uplift in this season. Instead of passing along fear and doubt as the virus continues to spread, we must be instrumental in speaking words of faith that inspire people to trust in God. As we speak with our friends, co-worker, in-laws, and church family, let us edify one another and bear the fruit of kindness and gentleness. Let us use our tongue to give God all the glory.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
I am hopeful that by the love and power of Yahweh through His son Jesus Christ, we have already overcome this pandemic. Women of God I encourage you to activate your faith and begin to use your anointing to affect all those around you. May you and your family be blessed and hidden from the effects of the coronavirus.
