I often wondered what the purpose of a woman was on this Earth. Was it just to be a wife, a mother, a muse? In my younger days, I often found myself returning to Genesis, the beginning, to find clues about who I’m meant to be and how I’m meant to impact this world. Genesis taught me that a woman is a helper; It’s in our nature. We come in and we organize, we strategize. We bring purpose and perspective to the atmosphere’s that appear hazy. More simply put, we know how to get the job done.
This is further proven in the book of Proverbs. We’ve probably all heard of the Proverbs 31 woman. She’s a wife, a mother, keeper of the home, and a businesswoman; an entrepreneur rather. She rises early to care for her servants and then she’s on her way to make deals with investors. She’s a woman who gets the job done.
With such an impressive resume, none of these attributes mean more than that which is mentioned in verse 30.
It reads, “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
Upon reading this verse, I suddenly understood why women are truly on the Earth. More important than our roles as wives, mothers, helpers, cultivators, and contributors, we are FIRST expected to be women who fear the Lord. Our relationship with Jesus defines us. He created us for Himself FIRST and then gave us a role on the Earth.
A woman will never be the best version of herself unless she has the fear of God. When we fear God we have the right perspective of His majesty and authority. When we have the right perspective of Him, then we can have the right perspective of ourselves. Once we began to see ourselves rightly, there is NOTHING that we can’t do.
